Breast MRI is at the forefront of the larger field of women's imaging, and is highly accurate in evaluating breast cancer. With the 1.5 Tesla MRI unit and equipment specifically designed to accommodate the breasts, high-resolution images can be obtained, images not possible with lesser MRI units or standard mammography machines. This technology is comparable to those performed in major medical centers or research institutions throughout the U.S.

Breast MRI has long been the best test to detect leakage from silicone breast implants. It is also now recognized as valuable for problem-solving other breast abnormalities, especially when the breast tissue is very dense on mammograms, making cancer harder to diagnose.

Once breast cancer has been diagnosed, Breast MRI is highly accurate for detecting additional areas of cancer in the same or opposite breast, which can greatly alter treatment (sometimes allowing breast-conserving surgery instead of a mastectomy, while at other times showing that a lumpectomy alone will not remove all of the cancer). MRI of breasts is also useful for monitoring response to chemotherapy or for detecting residual cancer after surgery.
